Admission arrangements Primary school
Cheshire West and Chester Council is consulting on its school admission arrangements, proposing to reduce the published admission number for five community and voluntary controlled schools. Please see attached a summary of changes and response form. The consultation will run from 14 November 2024 until 8 January 2025., in accordance with the timescale set out in the School Admissions Code Any responses received during this timeframe will be taken into consideration before determining the arrangements by 28 February 2025.
Reception class applications for children starting school in Reception are submitted and dealt with centrally by Cheshire West and Chester Council. See attached determined admission arrangements 2025-26 for further information. Each Autumn we have open mornings for prospective parents to view our wonderful school, these take place late September / Early October, please look out for our flyers or contact the school office for more information in the Autumn term. Late appliations after the January deadline should also be made through the online application process.

Applications for in-year transers are the responsibility of the school. To enquire about a place and/or organise a visit to Helsby Hillside Primary School, please phone the school office on 01928 722991. You must let the Headteacher of your current school know you are planning to take your child out of school before you visit the new school. If you wish to apply, an online application form must be completed accessed on the Cheshire West and Chester Council website available here. Parents will receive a reply within ten working days of submitting an application with a decision either confirming a start date or a reason why a place cannot be offered. The earliest you can submit an in year transfer application is 20 school days prior to the requested start date. If you apply too soon, the application will be withdrawn and not be processed by the schools. The only exception to this is if the requested start date is for September in this case the earliest an application can be submitted is from the 1 June prior to September.
Children of armed forces personnel places will be allocated before the family arrive in the area if accompanied by an official government letter which declares a relocation date and a unit postal address or quartering area address for considering the application against Local Authority oversubscription criteria.
Only one application per academic year per school is permitted unless there is significant change of circumstance to warrant a new application. Circumstances must be outlined at the time of application.
For any children with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities, our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) will be consulted to assist with any arrangments.
From 1 January 2021 parents are reminded that it is their responsibility to check that they have a right of abode or that the conditions of their immigration status otherwise permit them to access a state-funded school.
